Some days, the world is a lot. This ostrich knows how to block it all out, by sticking sticking his head in the sand*. His body and long legs stand proud on top of the lid and his head is nowhere to be seen. Lift the lid and there he is, staring right back at you. Real sand is fired onto the top and underside of the lid, so the whole piece feels like a peaceful little dune.

Take a break from it all, then dig yourself out the best way there is: one shovelful at a time. Two wire arms reach out from the jar and hold a copper spade, handmade by Molly Hearn of Ellipsem Jewelry, so you can shovel salt into your cooking or sprinkle it over your food. (The piece does not need to hold salt - you can put anything in it you would like, but the idea began with salt)!

For those who need a little break, but then come back and get to work.

*Ostriches don’t really bury their heads in the sand. That’s a myth, believed to be born from the way they lower their heads to tend their nests. I just couldn’t resist the image though!

This jar measures 3” wide and 3.5” tall to top of ostrich.

Bottom features maker’s stamp and individual piece number 004-26. All glazes are leadfree and food safe. Do not microwave.
