Piping Plover Family Flower Brick № 049-26
Piping Plover Family Flower Brick № 049-26
An adult piping plover stands guard on the lid of this organic flower brick, with one baby standing close by and another sitting safely at its feet. A third chick tugs a worm out of the sand. Sand is fired onto the surface and glazed in light blue and shite-wash tones, the colors of a shoreline where the tide has just pulled back.
The top is pierced with holes for displaying grass, flowers, or feathers to create a habitat for the plover family. Fill the base with water to keep the stems fresh, or with natural treasures like shells, beach stones, and sea glass.
Piping plovers are a threatened shorebird. They nest right on open sand, where their eggs and chicks blend in so well that they’re easily stopped on or scared off the nest. Habitat loss, disturbance, and rising seas have pushed them to the edge. Protecting their nesting beaches is what keeps them here, so give them space, keep dogs leashed, and respect posted nesting areas.
For those who tread lightly on the shore, and make room for the small lives that depend on it.
Flower brick measures approximately 7.75” long at widest part of base and 5” wide. Adult piping plover measures approximately 2.75” long from beak to tail x 2.25” tall. Brick is approximately 1.5” deep.
Bottom features maker’s stamp and individual piece number 049-26.
