Sanderling Jar № 043-26 *second*

Sanderling Jar № 043-26 *second*
Ten sanderlings race across the top of this jar in a tight flock, running from the waves the way they do on every shoreline. The jar has real sand fired onto its surface. Sand is left exposed on one side, a white wash foams through the middle, and a blue, water-like glaze crashes in on the other, so the whole piece reads as a beach at the moment a wave arrives.
Lift the lid and a small hermit crab waits on the bottom, set in an oil-spot glaze that listens like sunlight through shallow water. A starfish on the side of the jar lines up with the lid so it closes properly.
For those who chase the tide, and leave the beach with sand in their shoes.
This jar measures a little under 3.75” wide and 3.25” tall.
Bottom features maker’s stamp and individual piece number 043-26.
**Every so often, a piece takes a slightly different path than I intended. I'm offering it at a reduced price for someone who will love it all the same. This piece has a crack in the underside of the lid. The crack does not go through the piece. It does not impair the function of the piece.
