A black swallowtail perches on an echinacea bloom in the nook of this mug, wings softly open as she feeds. The coneflower she’s visiting has golden nectar glowing from the cone, and a golden rim outlines the nook like a little stage for the moment. Coneflowers are carved across the background and inlaid with colored slip - green leaves/stems, purple petals, and orange cone centers. The glaze is a light sky blue, with flowing pink and cream washes around the rim, like a summer sky at twilight.

For those who stop for the butterfly and stay for the whole garden.
